Can't really recall how many times I've been to Langkawi but never get board with this island. It really a beautiful island n good for relaxing. However my visit this time is not really for vacation but attending a meeting. Thanks to the management who has given me the trust to join them for the meeting and at the same time I had a chance to have some time away from the workload at the office. Cool huh.. During my visit I stay at the Porto Malai Resort, very beautiful place tho' it far from the town. Really good for meeting n relaxation. Guess I really need that. Eventho' I've been to Langkawi several times before but during this trip it has give me something extra in my memories. For the 1st time I had a chance to experience island hoping. It was an interesting trip, I had a boat ride to 3 different island around the langkawi island. The 1st stop was Dayang Bunting Island, according to the local married couple who has difficulties having children will drink water from this island lake and the wife will soon pregnant. That is how the island get it name, bunting (malay word) = pregnant The next stop was Singa Besar island where we had a chance to see the eagle (quite a number of them). According to the locals also, back in those days there were lots of eagles in Langkawi island and that is how the island got it name from. It was an interesting experience for me to see how the eagles landed smoothly on the water to catch the chicken meat thrown by the boat driver in the water it kinda seeing a plane landed, so interesting. The 3rd island that we visit (sorry can't really recall the name) we had some relaxation at the beach. The beach was so beautiful with the sandy beach n crystal clear water. Really had a good time playing in the water.
We arrived back at the resort n had our lunch but the excitement doesn't stop there. After having a short break we then went to Mt. Mat Cincang. Here I experience a cable car ride at a very high place, it is totally different from the cable car ride to Genting Highland even that I had kinda uncomfortable time. But since Im here n not sure when I will have the chance again so I just hop in the cable car n join the ride. At first Im kinda nerveous but when Im up there I was so happy having the chance to view Langkawi island from an eagle view, it was so scenic and beautiful. When we arrived at the 1st stop I had a chance to experience the hanging concrete bridge on the mt. To make the experience more interesting as I walk on the bridge the winds blow n I can feel the bridge swinging, it really something especially when you are up there at more than 600 meter above the ground.... Then we cont' our cable car ride to the peak of the Mt. When I arrived at the peak (abt 700 meter) I feel some kind of satisfaction n relaxation looking at the scenic view of Langkawi island. I can even see the Telaga Tujuh from the peak, very interesting.
My trip to Langkawi this time is really the best out of all the trip to Langkawi that I've made. I really thank my management for giving me this opportunity. Will never forget this precious experience n will treasure it forever.

Let see, what can I say about Tehran? Oh yeah before that some intro, my latest assignment in fact the 1st but hope not the last for 2005 is to Tehran, Iran. After some small dilemma whether I'm going or not finally I went to Tehran, Iran. The flight was ok besides a few tarbulence (I threw up in my connecting flight frm Dubai to Tehran) what an exp. Anyway we arrived at the Imam Khomaeni airport at abt 4 am then str8 to the hotel abt 90km frm the airport. Besides prob with the room allocation "thx" to the hotel managment I manage to have a short deep nap So tired maa...
At 8 work start n so does the following 2 days, bz n people turn up is kinda overwhelming even Prof. Md. Nor, Dr. Yusoff n I were so tired at the end of the day.Abt people of Iran, there are modern people but in their way of modernization. Can't really explain that coz u'll only understand it when u r there. How abt food? well u can eat kebab, kebab or kebab!!! (Dr. Yusoff quote) for abt 4 days in Tehran all of us had enough kebab there, I dont even have the appetite to eat kebab here in KL. We manage to squeeze in some time on the 2nd day to visit the bazaar n guess what? I end up to be the one with the most bags... when it comes to shopping pls bear with me.... I was like half crazy looking at the craft thay have to offer, luckily half of the bazaar was closed (thursday is a half day) otherwise I would have shop till I drop... Friday is a public holiday n after the exhibition all of us had a walk around the hotel area. It was like walking on a haunted area, so quiet! For people in Iran, Friday is a day for family gathering so they don't go out much not like Malaysian, more happening on weekends...we manage to drop by few craft shops to buy some souvenirs for our friends in Malaysia... On saturday we leaved Tehran. We had a stop over in Dubai for a few hrs. That was my 1st time in Dubai too. Together with the rest of the deligates we had a visit to...the Shopping Mall!!! what else can we do during the stop over... again I did some shopping eventhough the currency is as same as RM but that doesn't bother me coz I did my shopping in Dubai...!! what an exp. Overall the trip was OK but one thing I feel incomplete throughout the visit was the sight seeing. We didn't had a chance to visit any of the historical/interesting places in Tehran which I really regret the most. Wish we had more time there... Anyway thx to Marliza from EXPAM who really took care of us throughout the exhibition.

Finally I arrived in Sabah. This is my 1st visit to Kota Kinabalu (KK) n thanks to my boss for giving me the chance to join them for a meeting there. KK is not really a hectic city compare to KL but it has it own identity. I had a chance to visit the Philipine market where they sell local product including variation of brooch which make the ladies go crazy... I did buy some dried fish n shrimp to KL and also a block of shrimp paste a.k.a belacan as if there is not enough shrimp paste in KL...hehehe anyway I got a better price for the shrimp paste thanks for the good bargaining skill of Dr. Yusoff and Azizah On the last day I had a chance to visit Kundasang the high land of Sabah which is near to Mt. Kinabalu. It was an interesting experience to see the greens which is hardly found in KL and all the fresh air...so calm.

Amman, Jordan (December 2004)
|
|
I thought this task will be something like Yemen so I'm so prepared for the worst that could happen. Unfortunately it turn out differently. Amman is a modern city with a clean road compare to KL. It has 8 roundabout (they call it circle) along the main road in the city. Actually there are 2 city of Amman, the old Amman n the new Amman. We stayed at the new Amman. It was really cold n I only brought my black jacket, what an experience for me. No snow but the wind n breeze was so damn cold. We managed to visit Petra (8 hrs return journey from Amman) where the pre historic civilization lies n it was a priceless experience for me to see such place. Thanks to our tourist guide ( 2 malaysian, study in Jordan) Najib n Din. Both of them do help a lot, thanks guys. The best part when I got the chance to go to the Dead Sea but I didn't get a chance to be in the water since I went there on the last day of the visit. From the dead sea I can see the hills that covers Israel, the other deligates manage to come on the 1st day n were welcome by 3 bombing launch by Israeli's to the Palestine, what an experience for them. The dead see is so calm n it looks almost like a lake except it got waves. This task to Amman, Jordan is unforgettable n if I have a chance, I would like to come again coz Jordan has lot of pre historic places to visit n learn about the history that u only read from the books before. What a wonderful thing to learn n witness.

It was an interesting exp for me travelling to Yemen. It took us about 24 hrs to arrive to Sana'a in stead of the 14 hrs usual journey. We were stranded in Aden for a few hrs coz the pilot cannot land in Sana'a, the clouds were thick. Travelling by Qatar Airways is a new exp for us too coz none of us has exp with the airways. When we arrived at Sana'a airport we were shocked with the situation there as if like it on war coz all the men are holding mechine gun n a dagger (with a curve point) but we were told by our organizer (Dr. Ali) that it is part of the daily attire for Yemeni men. What relief! The crowd was good we had quite a hectic day throughout our tour to 3 different city in Yemen (Sana'a, Taiz, Aden). Overall it an interesting n exciting journey and we learnt a lot about life n Yemen there.
